The long-awaited opening up is finally happening, with the remaining covid restrictions in England to end on the 19th July. In this post we take a look at what you can do locally when you come to stay with us at Knotlow Farm caravan and campsite…
On the Farm
We are expecting a litter of Oxford Sandy Black ( a rare breed) piglets any day now. Look out on our Instagram page for pictures.
Bradwell Carnival
The only local carnival still getting the go-ahead this summer, this will take place on Saturday 31st July. Attractions include floats, male cheerleaders (the famous Billerettes), a fair, displays from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service and much more. The organisers are calling on people to join in the fun, and it looks well worth a visit!
Buxton Opera House
Open again from the 8th July, there is an exciting programme of new shows on offer, including Dirty Dancing, Gossiping with the Georgians, A Little Night Music and a range of Buxton Festival shows and talks. The Opera House itself, with its turrets, stained glass canopy and balconied bar is extremely picturesque and well worth a visit for its architectural beauty alone.
Derbyshire Shire Horse Association Show Day
Well worth a visit and a great family day out, ticket prices are also very reasonable at £4 per adult and just £1 per child. The event is held at Farnah House Farm, Wirksworth Road, Duffield, Derby, Derbyshire, DE56 4AQ on Sunday 1st August from 10am–3pm. Organisers describe the event as the perfect showcase for these gentle giants and it is sure to be a hit with children.
Manifold Valley Show 2021
Saturday August 14th, Ilam Moor Lane, ILAM. Just over the border in Staffordshire, you can get a wonderful taste of one of the few really authentic local agricultural shows still being held in these parts. This is where the farming community in North Staffs and South Derbyshire get together to show off and Main Ring events include shires, carriage driving, sheep dogs, Chase me Charlie, vintage tractors and terrier racing. In addition there is to be a Fun Dog Show (entries on the day) and numerous trade stands. Admission is £5 for adults with kids going free. One of our top local attractions in a beautiful rugged setting in the countryside near Ilam.
